How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 60260 and Class 100 on the BOL to prevent reclass fees; note “Dye Soap, boxed” for clarity.
- Use strong corrugated boxes with inner poly liners to stop staining or scent transfer; double-wall for heavy multi-pack cartons.
- Palletize tightly: keep boxes upright, band or stretch-wrap, and cap the pallet to prevent top-crush during stackable LTL moves.
- Mark cartons “Keep Dry” and segregate from food items and open textiles; moisture or scent migration can trigger claims.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 delivers predictable rating and faster LTL quotes without density calculations.
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat surcharges and extra paperwork, reducing total landed cost.
- Boxed packaging simplifies handling and stacking, cutting damage risk and claim exposure.
- Accurate NMFC use curbs inspections and re-bills, improving on-time performance for dye houses and textile mills.
