Notes
Note 62266: NOTE-Applies only on housings or enclosures for permanent installation.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Mount the enclosure to a robust pallet with lag bolts through the pad base, add cross-bracing, and band doors shut to prevent tipping or racking.
- Measure overall footprint including base flanges, hinges, handles, and lifting lugs; list those dimensions and the total weight on the BOL for accurate rating.
- Protect painted steel with edge guards, foam sheets, and stretch wrap; add a poly rain cap and desiccant if the load may stage outdoors.
- Reference NMFC 62265 on documents and review Note 62266 for accessories included as one handling unit; add Do Not Stack and center-of-gravity labels.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fewer reclasses and rebills by matching palletized packaging to the NMFC article and the related note, keeping billing predictable.
- Lower damage risk on heavy-gauge steel cabinets by immobilizing the base and securing doors, reducing costly dent and misalignment claims.
- Faster quoting and simpler carrier selection because palletized, non-hazardous electrical enclosures fit standard LTL programs and routing.
- Improved job-site readiness for utilities and contractors with clear specs and labels, helping deliveries land on time at pads and yards.
