Notes

Note 62582: NOTE-Shipper must certify on shipping orders and bills of lading at time of shipment that the actual value per pound of the property does not exceed 50 cents. How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Verify eligibility: each motor is used, under 5 lb, and valued only for reconditioning or parts at no more than $0.50/lb; otherwise review Note, item 62582.
  2. Mark the BOL: “NMFC 62580, Class 70 – used small electric motors for salvage/reconditioning – PREPAID.” Include unit count and average unit weight.
  3. Package to protect leads and shafts: cap or tape wires, bag to contain grime, cushion in inner cartons, then place inner packs in a master carton.
  4. Palletize securely: stack cartons without overhang on a 40×48 pallet, strap and stretch-wrap, and label “Used for Reconditioning.” Example: 20 units at 4.3 lb each, boxed, master-cartoned, palletized.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Predictable pricing with fixed Class 70—no density calculation, faster quoting, and fewer reclass surprises.
  • Low salvage-only valuation limits carrier liability exposure and helps avoid valuation disputes and rebills.
  • Prepaid requirement clarifies billing upfront, speeding tender acceptance and reducing administrative back-and-forth.
  • Efficient packing of many light motors improves cube utilization, lowers handling risk, and cuts claim and replacement costs.
