How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Secure the house: latch and lock doors, cap conduit openings, add desiccant inside, then wrap with moisture-resistant film to protect sensitive relays.
- Mount for handling: bolt the steel or aluminum house to a 4‑way pallet or steel skid, use edge protectors, and apply two to three heavy bands; keep upright and mark Do Not Stack.
- Note special handling on paperwork: list NMFC 63380, Class 100, non‑hazardous on the BOL; add Sensitive Electronics and This Side Up labels; request liftgate or long‑fork forklift if needed.
- Stabilize internals: cushion relay racks and terminal blocks with foam or bracing to reduce vibration and shock during LTL moves, especially on longer intermodal lanes.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing: fixed Class 100 rating removes density calculations, helping estimators quote quickly and budget reliably for rail signal projects.
- Fewer compliance hurdles: non‑hazmat status streamlines tendering and reduces accessorial delays, accelerating deployment to job sites.
- Lower reclass risk: declaring NMFC 63380 on the BOL minimizes disputes, chargebacks, and administrative time tied to misclassification.
- Reduced damage costs: enclosure‑specific packing and upright handling guidance protect high‑value electronics, cutting claim exposure and downtime.
