Classification Details
| NMFC | Description | Class |
|---|---|---|
| 63465.00 | Tubes, magnetron, microwave oven, metal and ceramic construction, in boxes, see Note, item 63466 | 70 |
Notes
Note 63466: NOTE-Applies only on tubes of metal and ceramic construction when the ceramic materials do not exceed 5 percent of the weight of the tube.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use rigid double‑wall boxes with foam end caps to immobilize the magnetron body and protect ceramic insulators and terminals from impact.
- Palletize multiple cartons, keep arrows up, and space from magnetic‑sensitive cargo (meters, compasses, tapes). Shrink‑wrap and strap to prevent shifting.
- Print NMFC 63465 and Class 70 on the BOL, and reference the related note (item 63466) if your packaging or unit style requires special handling remarks.
- Cap or sleeve spade terminals and the antenna stub, then fill voids so fins and magnets cannot vibrate. Avoid top‑stacking to reduce fracture risk.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable Class 70 rating speeds quoting and improves carrier alignment without density disputes.
- Non‑hazardous status streamlines compliance and reduces accessorial exposure for ground LTL.
- Boxed‑goods recognition lowers reclass risk and claim frequency for fragile ceramic components.
- Fits the Electrical Equipment Group, enabling mixed‑electronics consolidation and better linehaul rates.
