How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Quote at NMFC Class 100 and select Packages as the packaging type; density and dimensions are not required for the classification.
- For fresh material, use breathable inner bags and vented cartons; add liners to manage moisture and prevent resin or dye transfer to the box.
- Pack loosely to avoid crushing delicate fronds and moss mats; use light dividers or paper to keep bundles from shifting in transit.
- Palletize with corner boards, a top cap, and soft tension on straps; mark Do Not Crush and keep away from heat sources during summer runs.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 simplifies rating and contracts, speeding quotes for floral wholesalers, craft chains, and garden centers.
- Non-hazardous status reduces special handling costs and streamlines carrier acceptance across regional and national LTL networks.
- Single classification for fresh or preserved product minimizes reclass risk and prevents unexpected invoices.
- Consistent packaging-as-packages rule makes scaling seasonal shipments straightforward and lowers claims from compression damage.
