How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Reference NMFC 64760 for canopy or hover components only; note “see item 64682” on the BOL to align with the NMFTA note language.
- For knocked-down parts, bundle panels and frames with edge guards, bag loose hardware, and strap to a pallet with a fiberboard cap to prevent strap bite.
- For assembled hovers, crate or frame-pack with vertical corner posts, add a rigid top deck, and limit overhang to reduce dents and crushing in LTL.
- Moisture-protect bare or galvanized pieces with poly or VCI wrap, label orientation, and apply clear “Do Not Stack” where the canopy crown could deform.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Accurate item usage reduces reclass and inspection fees, keeping poultry equipment projects on schedule.
- KD methods cut cube on light but bulky canopies, lowering LTL spend and avoiding oversize accessorials.
- Non-hazardous designation simplifies carrier acceptance and eliminates hazmat surcharges.
- Damage-resistant packing decreases claims on dent-prone sheet components, improving delivery reliability for hatcheries and farm suppliers.
