NMFC 65440 - Iron Tank Heaters, NOI | Class 85

Note 65442: NOTE-Applies on the type of water heaters or stoves used for heating or tempering water in open stock tanks.

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. Verify construction is primarily iron to fit NMFC 65440; if mixed materials or specialty designs apply, review notes referencing items 65442 and 65444 before tendering.
2. Palletize on a sturdy 4‑way skid. Block round or cylindrical housings to prevent roll, then strap with two bands and add edge protectors to avoid strap bite into iron.
3. Guard protrusions like thermostats, brackets, and cord grips with foam and corrugated sleeves; cap threaded openings and shrink‑wrap the unit tightly to the pallet.
4. For used heaters, clean residues and dry surfaces; bundle loose controllers or hardware to the same skid and label piece counts to prevent OS&D disputes.
