How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack small plastic bag clips or ties in sealed inner polybags, then place those into sturdy corrugated boxes to prevent parts migrating through carton seams.
- Use dividers, trays, or small bins inside the box to stop shifting in transit; e.g., 1,000-count bakery closures in partitioned cartons.
- Right-size carton strength for the weight and avoid overfilling that can crush thin plastic closures; tape all seams with 2-inch pressure-sensitive tape.
- Palletize in flat layers, strap or wrap to the pallet, and mark BOL as “Plastic Bag Fasteners – NMFC 66375” for smooth carrier handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Boxed packaging aligns with NMFC expectations, often keeping shipments at the lower end of Class 70–85 and trimming LTL rates.
- Clear BOL description (NMFC 66375) reduces reclass inspections and surprise accessorial charges.
- Compact, partitioned cartons cube efficiently, improving trailer utilization and lowering per-unit freight costs on bulk fasteners.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines pickup and linehaul scheduling, shortening transit delays and reducing administrative overhead.
