How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack non-foam rubber or plastic treads flat in boxes with slip sheets between each piece and corner guards to protect nosing edges.
- Palletize boxed treads in even layers; add a top sheet and use light strap tension to prevent bowing or imprint marks.
- Print NMFC 71020 and Class 70 on the BOL and outer cartons to reduce reclass risk and speed carrier check-in.
- In mixed flooring loads, stack these boxes above heavy tile or stone to avoid compression damage during transit.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 delivers predictable LTL quotes without density calculations.
- Faster rate shopping and tendering improves turnaround for installers and distributors.
- Boxed packaging minimizes scuffs on tread faces and nosings, lowering damage claims.
- Non-hazardous commodity broadens carrier options and simplifies paperwork and scheduling.
