How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Bundle stems tightly inside each box and add corrugated end pads so dowel tips or wire ends don’t punch through, especially on 24–36 in. lengths.
- Palletize with no overhang, cross-stack the cartons, apply corner boards and two straps, then stretch-wrap to prevent slender boxes from bowing in transit.
- Print NMFC 71480 and Class 70 on the BOL and cartons alongside piece count and lengths; use “Do Not Crush” or “Top Load Only” where stacking risk exists.
- In humid routes, line boxes with kraft or poly to limit wood warp and wire corrosion, and keep cartons away from liquids, melts, or ice packs.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 simplifies quotes and eliminates density math, reducing reclass fees and billing disputes.
- Non-hazardous florist components expand carrier options and speed tendering without special approvals.
- Boxed presentation cuts handling touches and claim risk from split wood tips or bent wire, improving delivery quality.
- Consolidating many light cartons on one pallet improves cube efficiency and lowers per-shipment costs for wholesalers and event florists.
