How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Measure each box and calculate PCF density: weight ÷ (L×W×H/1728). Example: a 20×18×40 in torso at 22 lb ≈ 2.6 pcf.
  2. Disassemble and nest parts to raise density—remove arms and heads, stack wig blocks—then pad fragile features like noses, fingers, and toes.
  3. Use double‑wall cartons with internal bracing for fiberglass or resin; float pieces with 2–3 inches of foam and eliminate voids to stop shifting.
  4. Palletize upright with no overhang; mark Do Not Stack if crush risk exists, and label “Display Forms — NMFC 75780” with piece count for inspections.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Density-based rating lets efficient nesting lower class, trimming LTL spend and avoiding oversize charges on tall torsos and lay figures.
  • Boxed-only packaging aligns with carrier handling, cutting reweigh/reclass disputes and accelerating clean invoice processing.
  • Non-hazardous designation broadens carrier choice and speeds quoting and tendering across regional and national networks.
  • Reinforced packing reduces scuffs and breaks on showroom finishes, lowering claim costs and preventing costly retail floor delays.
