How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 75990, Class 70 on the BOL for fiberboard refrigerator breaker strips packed straight in bundles or cartons.
- Use tight bundles with edge protectors and plastic banding; palletize to keep strips rigid and prevent bending during LTL cross-dock handling.
- Wrap bundles to guard against moisture wicking into fiberboard; add a slip sheet and top sheet for stacked pallets.
- Mark cartons with Do Not Bend and place longest dimension parallel to pallet boards to reduce overhang and crush risk.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable Class 70 rating eliminates density calculations, speeding up quotes and preventing reclass charges.
- Non-hazardous appliance components avoid hazmat fees and simplify carrier acceptance across standard LTL networks.
- Straight, packaged strips load efficiently, reducing damage claims and improving supplier scorecards for appliance OEMs.
- Single, clear NMFC listing minimizes rating disputes and creates consistent freight budgeting across lanes and carriers.
