Notes

Note 78122: NOTE-Applies only on fresh peaches in their own juice or sugared for preservation during transit, but not frozen.

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Pre-cool peaches and book refrigerated LTL with a 32–34°F setpoint; add a temperature recorder to verify the cold chain from dock to receiver.
  2. Pack in vented cartons or RPCs with trays and pads to curb bruising; unitize on 40×48 GMA pallets with corner boards and tight stretch wrap—no overhang.
  3. Mark the BOL clearly: “Peaches, prepaid.” Include carton count, pallet quantity, and net weight, plus reefer instructions for drivers and terminals.
  4. Avoid mixing with ethylene-sensitive greens and odor-heavy freight; schedule early-week pickups to limit dwell time and ripening during transit.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Prepaid terms lock in negotiated produce rates and simplify billing, lowering reclass and accessorial disputes.
  • Vented, cushioned packaging and solid palletization reduce bruise claims and out-of-grade rejections at receivers.
  • Clear commodity naming when Class is N/A speeds approvals and helps prevent reweigh/reclass fees and delivery delays.
  • Full 40×48 pallet builds maximize cube for multi-stop reefer routes, trimming per-case transportation cost.
