How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack molded plywood pieces as tight, protected packages: nest curved shells, add edge guards, and wrap surfaces to prevent scuffs or veneer delamination.
- Use flat dunnage above and below stacks, then strap to a pallet with cornerboards; avoid overhang that can crack thin radii or edges.
- Choose the correct subclass within the 70–200 range based on the exact NMFC listing for molded plywood stock, and print NMFC 83650 and the selected class on the BOL.
- Call out handling cues like Do Not Double Stack or Keep Dry when finish veneers or pressed forms are moisture-sensitive or easily crushed.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Correct class selection within 70–200 avoids reclass fees and surprise rate increases on molded plywood components.
- Damage-minimizing packaging (edge guards, nesting, palletized support) reduces OS&D claims and keeps production lines supplied on time.
- Clear labeling and accurate NMFC 83650 data speeds carrier acceptance and lowers dwell time, improving pickup reliability.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines quoting and tendering, helping you secure competitive LTL rates without hazmat surcharges.
