Notes

Note 89796: NOTE-Articles tendered for shipment on lift truck skids, pallets or platforms must be securely fastened to and must not overhang the edges of the lift truck skid, pallet or platform deck. Exposed surfaces and edges must be protected by packing forms or other packaging materials so as to withstand the normal rigors of the less-than-truckload environment.

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Calculate density on collapsed/folded units: measure the largest crate or bundle and weigh the full pallet, then map PCF to the class within 70–300.
  2. Package frames on skids with banding, cross‑bracing, and corner protectors; wrap HDPE seat shells to prevent scuffs; add “Do Not Stack” where needed.
  3. Keep long stringers/deck planks under 96" when possible; for 96–120" pieces, request over‑length handling and cap all ends to stop punctures.
  4. List rails, hardware kits, and decking as parts NOI under the same item; include a contents map and reference Note, item 89796 to meet the packaged requirement.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Density‑based classing rewards collapsed shipments—smaller cube can move at a lower class and better rate.
  • Proper “packages” prep minimizes inspections, reclass fees, and damage claims—keeping venue build schedules intact.
  • One NMFC for frames, seats, and parts simplifies quoting and routing, speeding purchasing for schools, parks, and stadiums.
  • Proactive over‑length planning avoids surprise accessorials and helps secure on‑time deliveries to construction or event sites.
