How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack retail units in sturdy master cartons, coil cords, cap clipper heads with guards, and fill voids so kits don’t rattle in transit.
- Palletize cartons in flat layers, then stretch-wrap and strap. Mark each case and BOL: “NMFC 92260, Class 100 — Hair Clippers.”
- Keep the shipment homogeneous. Don’t mix pro salon tools under other NMFCs; if you must, list separate BOL lines to avoid reclass.
- For eCommerce replenishment, confirm case counts and markings match the BOL (e.g., “12 kits per case, boxed”) to streamline receiving.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 yields predictable LTL rating, reducing reclassification disputes and unexpected charges.
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat fees and carrier limits, opening more service options and lanes.
- Boxed packaging minimizes motor and blade damage, cutting claim rates and protecting margin on repeat shipments.
- Clear NMFC labeling speeds dock handling and accelerates retail and 3PL turn-times for better on-shelf availability.
