How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the product fits NMFC 92280: human or imitation hair goods (wigs, wiglets, falls, toupees). Costume or toy hair goes to item 92281 instead.
- Package only in boxes or Package 2213. Use molded forms or nets to hold style, poly-bags for humidity control, and a tight outer corrugated carton to prevent crush.
- Book it at Class 400—density won’t change the class. Still provide accurate carton count, weight, and dimensions for carrier space planning and pricing.
- Reduce loss risk: avoid flashy brand marks on cartons, apply tamper-evident tape, and note limited stackability on labels when styles risk deformation.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Accurate NMFC 92280 use prevents reclass fees and carrier disputes, protecting margins on high-value hair merchandise.
- Class 400 visibility helps forecast LTL costs and negotiate profile-based rates for salon chains, theatrical suppliers, and medical hair providers.
- Right packaging (boxes/Package 2213) cuts damage claims by preserving shape, sheen, and texture—fewer returns and better customer satisfaction.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines tendering and documentation, enabling faster dock turns and more predictable transit times.
