NMFC 99420 - Hides, Pelts or Skins, Green | Class 100

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. Package raw hides in leak-resistant containers: poly-lined cartons, waxed boxes, or plastic-wrapped bundles in crates. Add absorbent pads and a drip tray on the pallet to contain brine.
2. State the condition on the BOL—“green,” “green salted,” or “pickled”—and list packaging as “packages.” Avoid “loose” to prevent disputes and reclassification.
3. Stabilize odor and moisture: wrap bundles tightly, stretch-wrap the pallet, and use liners. In hot weather, consider reefer service for freshness and to reduce odor complaints.
4. Confirm USDA/APHIS and any import/export permit requirements for skins before pickup, especially for cross-border lanes, to avoid inspections and holds.
