Note 104162: NOTE-Applies only on articles weighing 24 pounds or more per cubic foot made from armor plate and further processed than ground, beveled, drilled, prime-coated, punched, bent, curved or cut to size or shape.

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. List on the BOL: Armor, NOI, iron or steel — NMFC 104160, Class 70; reference item 104162 note if a carrier asks for clarification.
2. Palletize or crate heavy armor plates using thick skids, 4-way entry, cross-blocking, and steel or poly banding; add edge guards and prevent any overhang.
3. Plan handling early: arrange dock or forklift; liftgates are rarely suitable. For pieces 8 ft or longer, confirm overlength surcharges or request flatbed pickup.
4. Document counts and weights precisely (per piece and total). Mark centers of gravity on crates to help safe handling and reduce claim risk.
