NMFC 104700 - Casing Bottoms & Hot-Top Covers | Class 50

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. Package on sturdy pallets or in wooden crates so the items qualify as “in packages.” Band tightly, add blocking, and keep the center of gravity low to prevent shifting.
2. Protect machined or sealing surfaces on hot-top covers with edge guards and foam. Wrap with VCI film and stretch wrap to limit corrosion during LTL transits.
3. Label the BOL with NMFC 104700, Class 50, and describe as “Casing bottoms or covers, ingot mold hot top, in packages.” No hazmat paperwork is needed.
4. Plan handling for weight and bulk. Specify forklift access, avoid top-stacking, and request a liftgate or appointment when delivering to foundries or machine shops.
