How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- On the BOL, list NMFC 108010, Class 110, and whether it’s a baby nursing kit or a bottle sterilizer (with or without bottles); verify kits meet the NMFC note referenced for item 108012.
- Prep cartons with snug void fill; for sterilizers, secure trays and power cords and drain any residual water. For kits, bag small accessories so they won’t shift in transit.
- Palletize on a 40x48 in. pallet, keep cartons upright, add corner boards and a top cap; for example, stack 24 boxed sterilizers (6 x 4 layers) and stretch-wrap with at least 4 film passes.
- Apply “This Side Up” or “Do Not Crush” labels if retail boxes are light-gauge. Perform a quick shake test—if contents move, add inserts before tendering to LTL.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable budgeting with fixed Class 110—no density calculations or surprise reclass fees.
- Quicker quoting and tendering since the item is boxed and clearly defined, streamlining carrier approvals.
- Lower damage risk for bottles and delicate plastics via standardized box and pallet methods aligned to this NMFC.
- Simplified catalog and EDI mapping—one code (108010) covers nursing kits and sterilizers, with or without bottles.
