How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm contents match the entry: primer, self‑vulcanizing rubber, cleaner/solvent, patches, and hand tools only—no power tools to avoid reclassification.
- Seal liquids tightly and bag each bottle; add absorbent liner and dividers inside the box to prevent leaks and abrasion during LTL handling.
- Keep boxes upright on a pallet, band and wrap; mark This Side Up and avoid top-stacking heavy freight due to liquid components.
- List “NMFC 108020, Class 85, Boxes” on the BOL with accurate piece count and weight to enable quick rating across non-hazmat carriers.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 85 simplifies pricing—no density calculation or dimensional tiering required.
- Non-hazardous status widens carrier options and eliminates hazmat surcharges.
- Standard boxed packaging speeds cross-dock flow and lowers claim risk for kits with liquids and rubber compounds.
- Clear content limits (no power tools) reduce reclass fees and unexpected delays.
