How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Print the BOL as: “Kits, copying machine supply, in boxes, NMFC 108055, Class 60; see Note item 108056.” This phrasing helps prevent reclass.
- Use sturdy corrugated cartons with inner bags for toner, dividers for rollers, and foam around fuser parts. Seal seams well and mark This Side Up.
- Palletize tight: no overhang, corner boards, and stretch wrap to the deck. Add a top sheet to keep cartons clean and reduce powder migration.
- Confirm kit contents align with Note item 108056. Do not mix unrelated office goods in the same box to maintain fixed Class 60 eligibility.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable LTL quotes: fixed Class 60 with no density calculation speeds rating and minimizes surprises.
- Lower freight spend: Class 60 is cost-efficient, especially for distributors shipping bulk copier maintenance kits.
- Fewer accessorials: non-hazardous freight avoids hazmat fees and simplifies carrier acceptance across networks.
- Reduced claim risk: boxed, unitized kits travel well, cutting damage, reships, and after-sale service interruptions.
