How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List on your BOL: Pipe weld annealing kits, NMFC 108190, Class 70, non-hazardous, shipped in packages.
- Keep the kit intact: place sleeves, cement, and banding wire together in a sturdy carton, then overpack or palletize to prevent separation.
- Moisture-protect the cement with a sealed inner bag and line the box; add 'Keep Dry' and orientation labels to protect fragile sleeves.
- Use banding or stretch-wrap to immobilize cartons on the pallet; target top-load strength to avoid crushing the insulating/exothermic sleeves.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 means predictable LTL quotes without density math, speeding up rate shopping and tendering.
- Non-hazardous components avoid hazmat fees and paperwork, reducing total landed cost.
- Clear kit-based description minimizes reclass/rebill risk and keeps carriers aligned on what's inside.
- Proper moisture and crush protection cuts damage claims on cement and sleeves, improving on-time project readiness.
