How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Verify the item fits: diesel engine starting system, fuel-injection type, with or without ether assist, shipped in boxes to align with Class 85.
- Prepare the kit: cap fluid ports, bag small injectors and lines, add absorbent liner, and brace pumps or rails inside a double‑wall carton with foam endcaps.
- Palletize multiples: keep one layer per pallet, no overhang, labels outward; add Orientation and Do Not Crush markings to reduce handling damage.
- On paperwork and labels, state: “NMFC 108525, Class 85, Boxed,” include part numbers and engine family/application to speed inspections and delivery.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 85 removes density calculations, speeding quotes and reducing reclass disputes across carriers.
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat fees and special carrier approvals, cutting total landed cost for OEMs and service networks.
- Boxed specification lowers accessorial risks for rewrap or rework and helps maintain low claim rates during LTL handling.
- Single listing covers kits with or without ether assist, simplifying SKU setup and accelerating dealer and distributor shipments.
