NMFC 111270 - Lignin Liquor in Drums | Class 55

Note 111272: NOTE-Lignin liquor is a concentrated liquid or semi-liquid residue or by-product from the manufacture of sulfite wood pulp.

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. Use NMFC 111270 and Class 55 on the BOL; specify “Lignin Liquor—neat or petroleum‑emulsified—in drums” to match the tariff wording and prevent reclass.
2. Prepare tight‑head steel or HDPE drums with secured bungs; apply tamper seals, ‘This Side Up’ arrows, and liquid handling labels. Add absorbent pads or a pallet tray for spill protection.
3. Palletize drums upright and band or strap them to the pallet with corner boards. Avoid double‑stacking unless drum specs allow; request ‘Do Not Stack’ cones when needed.
4. Verify any special Note under item 111272 with your supplier and SDS. If freeze protection is required, add the accessorial and note temperature guidance in the BOL.
