112800.00 Logs, native wood, Canadian wood or Mexican pine 50

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. List the commodity as raw pine logs and specify origin (native, Canadian, or Mexican) on the BOL to align with customs, APHIS, or CFIA expectations for cross‑border moves.
  2. Select equipment suited for logs: flatbed with stakes or a log trailer. For LTL, confirm carrier overlength limits; e.g., bundle 10–12 ft pine logs on dunnage with edge protection.
  3. Unitize securely: crib with wood, chock round stock, and apply at least two steel or polyester bands per bundle. Mark bundle counts and weight visibly on both sides.
  4. Request tarping when needed to control sap spray and debris, and ensure loaders use proper slings or forks to avoid bark shear and shifting during transit.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Fixed Class 50 rating simplifies pricing and often lowers costs versus higher-class lumber items.
  • Single NMFC for native, Canadian, and Mexican pine reduces reclass risk and streamlines cross‑border documentation.
  • Properly unitized bundles minimize accessorials (reweighs, reclasses, securement charges) and speed dock turns.
  • Predictable classification supports mill, timber, and biomass supply chains in planning seasonally variable volumes with stable rate baselines.
