Note 114012: NOTE-Shipments of machinery or machines, loose or on skids, must have small detachable parts removed and shipped in boxes or drums. Such boxes or drums must be specified on shipping orders and bills of lading. Fragile parts not detached must be protected.

- Start with this grouping when the commodity is a machine or a named machine part, then review notes in items 114012, 114014, and 114018 to select the precise named item and subclass before tendering freight.
- Stabilize the unit: bolt equipment to skids, block and brace moving elements, drain residual fluids, cap ports, and protect controls. Example: crate and band a pump or gearbox; foam-wrap touchscreens and panels.
- Quote with final pack dimensions and weight after crating or palletizing. Call out any overhang, lift points, and the center of gravity so carriers plan handling correctly.
- Mark the BOL as non-hazardous and confirm removal of fuel, batteries, or free liquids when applicable to avoid hazmat questions and inspection delays.
