How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Bundle KD components securely: frame, cone, drive units, and hydraulics packaged together with edge protectors, foam, and stretch wrap; bag small hardware and cap open ports to prevent contamination.
- Palletize the package for forklift handling and keep the center of gravity low; use steel or heavy-duty poly strapping and apply tilt/shock indicators for accountability.
- Mark paperwork and labels clearly: “Tree Baler, KD – NMFC 114620 – Class 125 – Non-Haz.” This helps carriers rate correctly and reduces the chance of a reclass.
- Plan accessorials common to farms and nurseries—liftgate, appointment delivery, and limited access—and verify longest piece length fits standard forklifts.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 125 rating simplifies quoting and avoids density disputes, reducing surprise charges.
- Correct NMFC 114620 on the BOL minimizes reclassification fees and speeds carrier acceptance.
- KD packaging lowers cube and damage risk, helping improve freight rates and claim outcomes.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and streamlines compliance, accelerating transit times.
