How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List on the BOL: Blowers or Driers, vehicle, overhead, in crates or on skids - NMFC 114994, Class 250, non-hazardous.
- On skids, lag-bolt the base and add braces; on crates, block motors and impellers, add moisture barrier, and mark center of gravity and Do Not Tip.
- Remove detachable nozzles, guards, and brackets; bag hardware and secure in a parts box, then label pieces as 1 of 2, 2 of 2.
- Share exact dimensions and weight to avoid extra fees; keep lengths under 96 in when possible, request liftgate or appointment for sites without docks.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 250 rating speeds quotes and prevents reclass charges since density does not change the class.
- Right-size packaging: skids can cut packing costs and weight, while full crates reduce risk and potential claim payouts on motors and housings.
- Clear labeling and bracing lower damage rates, protecting uptime for car wash operators, body shops, and dealer service bays.
- Non-hazardous machinery moves on standard LTL networks, expanding carrier options and avoiding hazmat fees and paperwork.
