How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Print NMFC 115085 and Class 70 on your BOL and select packaging as boxes to match the tariff language.
- Stabilize the unit: lock or tie down punch levers and bind heads, remove loose die sets, wrap the power cord, and use dense foam or molded inserts inside a double-wall carton.
- For heavier or electric models, add corner guards and a second outer box; when shipping multiple cartons, band to a pallet while keeping each unit in its own box.
- Ship supplies separately: combs, coils, and cover stocks have different NMFCs; separating them reduces reclass risk and keeps rates accurate.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 rating means predictable LTL pricing and faster quotes with no density calculation.
- Non-hazardous office machinery widens carrier options and minimizes special handling fees.
- Boxed packaging streamlines fulfillment; palletizing multiple cartons cuts damage and claim costs without changing the class.
- Accurate NMFC on the BOL helps avoid audit charges, reclass fees, and delivery delays.
