How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Choose the approved packaging: use robust wooden crates for heavy or motorized tables; double‑wall boxes with foam and a pallet base for lighter models.
- Immobilize the deck and drive components with blocking and bracing, then strap the unit to a skid. Shield motors, belts, and control boxes with padding or corner boards.
- Mark orientation and handling needs clearly: Keep Upright, Do Not Stack (unless the crate is rated), and show forklift entry sides and center of gravity.
- On the BOL, list NMFC 115300 and Class 100 and specify box or crate. Include accurate weight and request accessorials like liftgate service if no dock is available.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing: a fixed Class 100 rating streamlines quoting across carriers and cuts time spent on density calculations.
- Lower reclass risk: shipping specifically in boxes or crates aligns with the tariff and helps avoid inspection fees or billing adjustments.
- Fewer damage claims: rigid crating and proper bracing protect powered components, reducing downtime and replacement costs for conveyor lines.
- Flexible routing: non-hazardous machinery moves on standard LTL networks, improving service options and transit reliability.
