How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Package each disassembled section (frames, drives, guide rails) in sized boxes or sturdy wood crates; block and brace motors and shafts to prevent movement.
- Cartonize stands/supports separately and bag hardware by station; include assembly drawings and fastener maps in the master carton for quick reassembly on site.
- Label every piece with set and sequence numbers (e.g., “Line A – Crate 2 of 4”); put NMFC 115290 and Class 77.5 on the BOL; book standard LTL instead of flatbed.
- Protect belts, sensors, and controls with VCI or desiccant, then mount crates on skids for forklift access; do not mix in conveying tables, which are excluded.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 77.5 eliminates density disputes, reducing reclass fees and keeping quotes consistent across carriers.
- Disassembled, boxed/crated units suffer fewer dock impacts and scratches, lowering claims and shortening project timelines.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines paperwork and expands carrier options, helping secure faster pickups and transit.
- Standardized cartons/crates fit typical LTL networks, avoiding oversized handling charges and speeding cross-dock consolidation with other line equipment.
