How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- State NMFC 116000, Class 100 on the BOL for inserting machines and specify packaging as boxed or crated to prevent reclass.
- Crate floor-standing or high-value units; block and brace feeders, hoppers, and sealer attachments, and add tilt/shock indicators for cross-dock handling.
- For boxed shipments, use double-wall or heavy-duty corrugate with foam-in-place around control panels and trays; secure belts, doors, and magazines with zip ties.
- Palletize with center-of-gravity awareness; keep lift points accessible, band the machine to the pallet, and avoid unnecessary “Do Not Stack” cones that can add fees.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing at Class 100—no density calculation needed, simplifying quotes and routing decisions.
- Coverage includes units with or without envelope sealing attachments, reducing ambiguity and reclass disputes.
- Box or crate flexibility lets you balance cost and protection, limiting damage claims on sensitive feeders and electronics.
- Faster booking and rate shopping for mailrooms, print-and-mail houses, and service technicians moving equipment between sites.
