How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Print NMFC 116710 and Class 125 on the BOL, and note “Complete flour mill, SU on one base, crated on skid” to prevent reclass during inspection.
- Secure the mill’s base to the skid with lag bolts and blocking; provide 4‑way forklift entry and mark center of gravity for safe handling at terminals.
- Shield motors, gearboxes, and couplings with internal bracing and VCI/moisture barriers; add desiccant and shrink wrap to curb corrosion in transit.
- Install tip-and-tell and shock indicators, band the crate to the skid, and eliminate overhang by sizing the skid to the base footprint for single‑unit handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 125 rating simplifies quoting and yields predictable LTL costs across carriers.
- Crated, skid-mounted single unit reduces touches, cutting claim risk and downtime on delivery.
- Non-hazardous designation avoids hazmat paperwork and surcharges, speeding up tendering.
- Clear packaging criteria minimize inspections and reclass fees, protecting margins on heavy machinery lanes.
