How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Prepare the unit like industrial machinery: drain oils and process residues, secure rotating bowls or discs, cap ports, and remove loose hoods or guards before pickup.
- Mount the separator to a solid skid with lag bolts, block the rotating assembly, then fully crate with ISPM‑15 lumber for export or band to a steel-reinforced pallet for domestic LTL.
- Mark center of gravity and lift points; request a no‑tilt handling note if the bowl is sensitive to imbalance and provide forklift clearance under the base.
- List NMFC 116750 and Class 125 on the BOL; include serial number and overall dims for carrier planning, and choose volume LTL or partial truckload for taller frames.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable Class 125 rating reduces reclass risk and yields more consistent LTL quotes across carriers.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines tendering, avoids hazmat surcharges, and broadens carrier options.
- Proper crating and blocking protect precision internals, lowering damage claims and downtime costs.
- Clear, fixed-class listing speeds procurement logistics for mills and processors, improving lead times and freight budgeting.
