Classification Details
| NMFC | Description | Class |
|---|---|---|
| 117065.00 | Chassis, computing machine, steel wire or rod; or steel wire or rod with sheet steel components; in boxes | 200 |
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack each steel wire/rod chassis in a rigid box with foam blocking and edge guards so metal corners don’t pierce the carton; add VCI wrap or desiccant if humidity is a risk.
- Palletize the boxed unit for LTL: center it on a 48x40 pallet, apply corner boards, and strap in two directions to prevent crush or skew on open-frame chassis.
- Print the BOL with “NMFC 117065, Class 200, Non-Hazmat” and select “Boxes” as the packaging type; skip density to avoid reweigh/reclass disputes.
- If shipping to contract manufacturers or data centers, pre-book accessorials like liftgate or limited access; mark cartons “Do Not Crush” and “This Side Up.”
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 200 eliminates density calculations, reducing surprise reclass and inspection fees for predictable billing.
- Boxed packaging streamlines handling and stacking plans, lowering damage claims on thin-gauge sheet steel edges and weld points.
- Faster quoting and tendering: a single NMFC item simplifies multi-lane bids for electronics fabrication and integration supply chains.
- Consolidating multiple boxes on one pallet cuts minimum charges and improves utilization without changing the classification.
