How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Secure the frame to a hardwood skid with at least four 5/8 in bolts and blocking; lock the screw or hydraulic ram and strap the platen to prevent travel.
- Crate food-contact parts: wrap stainless platens, screens, and hoppers in poly and VCI paper, then fully enclose; ship small fasteners or guards in a separate, labeled crate.
- Mark center of gravity and lift points clearly; request liftgate or wide-tine forklift for older cast-iron mills that exceed standard pallet footprints or 800 lb.
- Provide precise dimensions, weight, and photos; if no fixed NMFC subclass applies, confirm your carrier’s rating approach for similar machinery to avoid reclass.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Reduced damage and claim risk on cast-iron and stainless assemblies through proper skid-mounting, blocking, and full crating.
- Cleaner, faster commissioning at the cidery by protecting food-contact surfaces, cutting on-site prep and sanitation time.
- Fewer surprise fees: accurate specs help prevent reclass, limited-access, and liftgate charges common with orchard or rural deliveries.
- Improved LTL rates and scheduling by consolidating the press into a single, stable handling unit that stacks and loads efficiently.
