NMFC 117990 - Coal Cutting Machines | Class 85

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. Identify the freight as “Coal Cutting Machine, NMFC 117990, Class 85” on the BOL and all labels. Include serial numbers and note non-stackable handling if applicable.
2. Bolt the frame to a heavy skid, block and brace, and guard sharp cutter picks. Drain and cap hydraulic lines and gearboxes; immobilize moving parts with transport locks.
3. Protect controls and electrics with robust crating or panel covers. Use corner protection and steel banding; add tilt/shock indicators for long routes or rough terrain corridors.
4. Plan the lift: mark center of gravity and lift points, use spreader bars to avoid panel damage, and book the right equipment (rigging crew or forklift with long forks). For oversize units, choose flatbed with tarping.
