How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Verify the unit fits NMFC 118110: a compressor or device specifically for natural gas cylinder refueling or torch supply, shipped in boxes; review Note, item 118111 to confirm applicability.
- Package in a sturdy double-wall or triple-wall box with internal bracing. Cap and plug all gas ports, secure wiring, and immobilize the pump/motor with foam-in-place or custom inserts.
- Mount the boxed unit on a pallet with no overhang. Use corner boards, banding, and stretch wrap; add “This Side Up” plus shock/tilt indicators to protect sensitive assemblies.
- Purge lines and ship depressurized; drain or secure any service fluids per the manufacturer. Mark the BOL with NMFC 118110, Class 77.5, and note “non-hazardous, boxed.”
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
