How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use rigid boxes or wooden crates with foam-in-place or custom cradle to protect curved acrylic/glass surfaces; add “Do Not Clamp” and orientation arrows.
- Wrap glazing in non-abrasive, anti-static film and slip-sheet with felt; avoid direct stretch wrap contact to prevent crazing or haze on plastic bubbles.
- Block and brace inside the crate to stop rolling; include shock/tilt indicators for LTL handling and mark as Fragile—Glass/Plastic Aircraft Part.
- Reference NMFC 11880 Class 300 on the BOL and list material (plastic, glass, or plastic/glass with metal) to prevent reclass and claims disputes.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Accurate NMFC 11880 Class 300 labeling reduces reclass fees and surprise accessorials common with fragile aircraft glazing.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and speeds AOG-critical moves without hazmat paperwork delays.
- Proper crating and bracing cut damage claims on high-value helicopter noses/bubbles, preserving resale and reducing downtime.
- Class 300 pricing is cube-sensitive—tighten crate dimensions and consolidate matched sets to improve freight rates.
