How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Crate or box the sheet-iron cabinet and bolt it to a skid; cap all iron pipe ends and secure the blower housing to prevent vibration damage.
- Line boxes with rigid foam and corner protectors, and add VCI (vapor corrosion inhibitor) wrap to reduce rust risk on sheet-iron surfaces.
- Mark orientation and center of gravity, and use Tip-N-Tell or ShockWatch indicators for LTL handling visibility.
- Write the BOL clearly: Deodorizers, dry cleaning, sheet iron cabinet with blower and iron pipes, NMFC 119360, Class 100, boxed/crated; request liftgate if delivering to a storefront cleaner.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 gives predictable LTL pricing and minimizes density disputes or reclass fees.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines booking and avoids hazmat surcharges and documentation complexity.
- Packaging flexibility (boxes or crates) lets you balance cost and protection to reduce OS&D claims.
- Single, specific NMFC item speeds quoting, shortens tender time, and improves audit compliance.
