How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use rigid corrugated boxes with stiff backers and edge guards so screens don’t flex; interleave multiple screens with foam or kraft sheets to avoid abrasion.
- Palletize boxed screens centered with no overhang; stretch-wrap and band. Mark pallets “Do Not Clamp” and “No Forks Through Sides” to prevent clamp-truck damage.
- Bill as “Dust Collector Screens (Dust Arrester) – Boxed,” NMFC 119890, Class 150. Include piece count and box dimensions for carrier handling and dock planning.
- For long or delicate mesh, select double-wall cartons, add corner protection, and use orientation arrows. Keep weight per box manageable for safer LTL handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable costs with fixed Class 150—no density math, easier rate shopping and faster quoting for industrial MRO and OEM shipments.
- Accurate NMFC coding reduces reclass and audit fees, protecting margins on recurring shipments to plants, woodshops, and powder-coat booths.
- Damage mitigation through proper boxing and bracing cuts claim risk on bend-prone screens, preventing costly production downtime.
- Stackable, well-supported cartons improve trailer cube and consolidation options, lowering cost per unit on multi-stop LTL runs.
