How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Quote as “Aircraft Galley/Cabinet – NMFC 12040 – Class 200” and specify packaging as boxed or crated so carriers rate it correctly.
- Secure all doors, latches, and caster locks; remove loose galley inserts (ovens, chillers, coffee makers, trolleys) and pack them separately inside the crate with inventory labels.
- Build a custom skid or crate with blocking and bracing, shock/tilt indicators, and clear center-of-gravity and lift-point markings; allow forklift tine clearance on both sides.
- For export or MRO returns, use ISPM‑15 stamped wood, mark “Do Not Stack/This Side Up,” and include photos and serial numbers to support claims and receiving checks.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 200 eliminates density disputes, reducing reclass fees and invoice surprises for aviation OEMs and MROs.
- Purpose-built crating and clear labeling cut damage risk, preventing AOG delays and costly rework on high-value galley monuments.
- Explicit packaging options (boxes or crates) streamline carrier selection and accelerate LTL tendering and pickup windows.
- Optimized crate footprint minimizes cubic exposure at a high class, helping control freight spend without compromising protection.
