How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Coil harnesses with wide bend radii, cap every connector, and place assemblies in anti-static bags before boxing with foam or dividers to prevent pin damage.
- Select crush-rated cartons and avoid top-loading; palletize with corner boards and stretch wrap, and mark Do Not Stack if connector density is high.
- Detail the BOL as “Aircraft engine wiring harnesses, boxed, NMFC 12090, Class 125, non-hazardous” and include part numbers or kit IDs for traceability.
- Provide dims for routing even though class is fixed; request limited handling and keep boxes upright to protect orientation-sensitive connectors.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable costs from fixed Class 125—no density calculations or reclass surprises.
- Faster quoting and carrier acceptance by clearly listing NMFC 12090 and boxed packaging.
- Lower damage risk through ESD-safe packing and connector protection, reducing claims and AOG delays.
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat fees and streamlines airport-to-MRO or OEM supply chain moves.
