How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use rigid, custom-fitted crates with V‑blocks and closed‑cell foam to support the hub and tip; avoid compressing the airfoil or leading edge.
- Label orientation and center of gravity, add “Do Not Stack” and shock/tilt indicators, and request non‑conveyable handling for long pieces.
- Bag composite blades or leading edge covers with desiccant and corrosion inhibitor wrap; cap tips and protect abrasion strips or nickel sheaths.
- Document part and serial numbers on the BOL and crate exterior to speed AOG parts verification and receiving at MRO facilities.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Accurate NMFC 12130 usage helps prevent reclass fees and oversize adders when dimensions and length notes are declared up front.
- Purpose‑built crating reduces damage risk, minimizing claims and shortening AOG downtime for flight operations and MRO schedules.
- Non‑hazmat status widens carrier options and lane availability, supporting better LTL rates and faster departures.
- Clean part/serial traceability streamlines export paperwork and compliance checks, reducing dock dwell and delivery delays.
