Notes

Note 120976: NOTE-Applies regardless of the nature of the apparatus in or on which the internal combustion engine is used.

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Choose packaging by size: double‑wall corrugated box with dense foam for smaller fans, or a wood crate with internal blocking for larger diameters. Wrap steel blades in VCI paper and cap the hub bore.
  2. Immobilize the assembly: brace the hub and each blade tip so nothing flexes. Keep blade tips at least 2 in from walls and add edge guards. Mark This Side Up and Do Not Clamp.
  3. Palletize correctly: bolt or screw the crate to a skid, or band and stretch‑wrap boxed units to a pallet with no overhang. Indicate center of gravity for safe lift‑truck handling.
  4. Document clearly: list NMFC 120975, Class 70, non‑hazardous, packaging type (box or crate), and piece count on the BOL. Include part numbers and photos to streamline claims if needed.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Fixed Class 70 simplifies quoting and avoids density disputes, reducing reclass fees for auto cooling components.
  • Packaging flexibility (boxes or crates) lets you match cost to blade size while staying in the same NMFC class.
  • Proper blocking for steel blades cuts damage rates and keeps fleets and reman shops supplied without downtime.
  • Clear NMFC labeling accelerates dock handling and carrier acceptance, improving transit reliability and rate shopping.
