How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Select NMFC 121130 when shipping plates or cake frames made from non‑iron/steel materials such as polypropylene, aluminum, or composite FRP. If the part is iron or steel, use the applicable metal item number instead.
- Palletize vertically with blocking and V‑boards to protect lugs, handles, and center‑feed ports. Example: ship 1000×1000 mm PP filter plates on edge with foam spacers and banding at three points.
- Crate fragile molded plates to prevent warping; keep away from heat and UV during transit and storage. Mark Do Not Stack and indicate lift points to avoid pressure on sealing surfaces.
- Bundle mixed sets by alternating plate/frame pieces with fiberboard sheets; bag gaskets, nipples, and hardware in a labeled pouch secured inside the crate for easy receiving.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 85 means predictable LTL pricing without density research, speeding quotes and tendering.
- Clear scope for non‑ferrous plates reduces reclass and rebill risks, protecting margins and timelines.
- Damage‑aware packing practices lower claim rates on high‑value filter plates used in wastewater, mining, and food processing.
- Non‑hazardous status broadens carrier options and enables competitive multi‑stop or cross‑dock routing.
