How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List on the BOL as “Fuel pump/circulating pump repair kit, NMFC 123900, Class 100, non-hazardous” to prevent reclassification and billing delays.
- Keep small parts in inner containers (trays, polybags, or clamshells) and fill voids inside the outer box to stop mixing or abrasion during transit.
- Palletize cartons on a 40x48 pallet, stack evenly, then strap and stretch-wrap; print carton labels outward for fast cross-dock scans.
- Note “one kit rebuilds one pump” on the carton and packing list, and avoid mixing part assortments across boxes to protect inventory integrity.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 delivers predictable LTL quotes and simpler rate shopping across carriers.
- Non-hazardous classification avoids hazmat fees and extra paperwork, speeding tender and pickup.
- Boxed kits with organized inner containers reduce OS&D claims and keep high-value small parts together.
- Clear NMFC mapping streamlines procurement and distribution for auto, diesel, marine, and ag service networks.
